About Thanksgiving Day

The American festivity Thanksgiving Day, that is yearly celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November, has originated from the old Catholic festivity Thanksgiving for the Harvest, yearly celebrated on the last day of the harvest, in some European countries that is on the first Wednesday in November. At Thanksgiving for the Harvest we thank God for the daily food that He gives us.

Symbols of Thanksgiving are products of the harvest like corn, wheat, pumpkins and apples. Colors of Thanksgiving are orange and all kinds of warm brownish colors. It is tradition to eat turkey with Thanksgiving.

In USA, Thanksgiving also is a celebration of the peace between the native American Indians and the pilgrims (colonists). Feathers (of the Indians) and pilgrim hats therefore also are symbols of Thanksgiving.
